If you are looking for a translation agency for the first time, here are some hints to help you make the best choice.

We handle a large volume of manual translation, including instruction manuals, operation manuals, product information, catalogs, specifications and online manuals. Leave the layout to us as well.
At ACCENT, the first translation is done by translators specialized in the language, field and content, followed by quality checks by reviewers and layout adjustment by our layout department, so we deliver files that are ready to use.
Manuals of All Kinds, from Translation to Layout
We handle a large volume of manual translation, including instruction manuals, operation manuals, product information, catalogs, specifications and online manuals. Leave the layout to us as well.
The most important thing in manual translation is managing terminology and style. If product names, technical terms and expressions vary within the same manual, it becomes very hard to use and leads to errors. At ACCENT, we unify the rules for expressions and notation in a style guide before translation begins and manage them thoroughly. Depending on the volume and content, we also use translation memory to translate manuals efficiently, and we handle revised editions smoothly.
Manuals are full of diagrams, tables, photos and screenshots. To provide translations that are easy to use, we include layout in Word, Excel and PowerPoint free of charge. If the source is supplied as a PDF, we recreate a layout that closely matches the original and deliver it as a Word file (free of charge).
Other applications are also available for an additional fee. Please contact us about layout fees.
When we receive a project, if you have a preference between (1) a translation that stays faithful to the original and puts accuracy first, or (2) a translation that puts readability first, we ask about it in advance and use it to decide whether, and how far, free translation is acceptable. Which approach is better depends on the nature of the source text and its purpose (how the manual will be used and how you will use the translation).
For example, operation manuals often contain many abbreviations. If the translation will be used directly as an operation manual, we think it is best to fill in omissions and translate freely where needed, producing text that is easy to read from the user's point of view. However, if your company will proofread the translation internally, it may be better for us to keep additions and free translation to a minimum.
Knowing the purpose and use of the translation is very important for producing it, so please let us know. If anything is unclear, please feel free to ask us.
We will let you know the standard delivery time when we send our quote. If you have a specific deadline in mind, please tell us when you request a quote, and we will confirm whether we can meet it.
Please let us know not only when you are in a hurry, but also when you have time to spare. Highly skilled translators are always working on several projects at once, and giving us more time increases the chance that the best translator for your project can take it on.
Researching in-house terminology such as product names, departments and job titles takes time, and it often cannot be confirmed from public sources. This tends to mean asking you to check after delivery or spending time on corrections. If you have reference materials, reference URLs or in-house terminology, please provide them before we start. Please also let us know if you have translations of related products or documents that we need to stay consistent with.
Entrusting a large manual translation to a translation agency for the first time can raise many concerns. If you are unsure about the level of quality, please try our free translation trial. It is a good opportunity to judge not only the finished translation but also our process and communication up to delivery, and to see whether our service meets your needs. The free trial covers approximately 400 characters of Japanese or 200 words of English.
